My Best Buys at Stud – 2019 – Honorable Mentions (In no particular order)

I expected this list to be headed by Quality Road, but in the end, I could not leave him off the “Best Buys” placing him at # 12. Now I have to start this list without him.

I am sticking with Greenpointcrusader and Texas Red even though both had fairly nominal sales last year. They are both worth more than their fee! Also back from 2018 are Morning Line, Tiznow, Flatter, Lemon Drop Kid, Street Boss and Munnings. Late additions (January 2018) Ride On Curlin, Noble Bird, and Tonalist from last year are also back as well as Galilian and Uncle Mo (who I had dropped for two years because of his fee) who I have already added this year, bringing my list to its highest number ever.

I also added Shagaf at the very low end of the Market, just recently. He stands for a mere $2,000. As good a buy as Lucky Pulpit was before California Chrome. But I am not through yet.

New this year is a horse I like a lot, almost enough to put in the top list, but certainly good enough for Honorable Mention. That is Oscar Performance, a son of Kitten’s Joy. He stands for $20,000 but I believe he has upside potential and he may well be the best son of Kitten’s Joy before the book closes on him, hopefully at least 20 years from now!

I really wanted to add Gun Runner to this list last year, but at $70,000, I did not feel he would have the impact he appears to be having. But he is doing well based on limited data and I am going to stick my nose out and add him as an Honorable Mention in 2019. And somehow, I meant to put English Channel on here last year and cannot find where I did, so make no mistake, this year he is in as well as Congrats and Dialed In. Also, as he now has a stated fee, I am adding Bodemeister.

Lastly, cannot stop loving Curlin. Therefore, I am keeping him as an Honorable Mention although I removed him from my Best Buys when his fee went up another big jump.

Again, I may add a couple by the end of January, but as of now, THIS IS IT!!!
