DNA and How It Changes the Evolution Controversy

Do you believe in DNA evidence? Would you convict someone based

substantially on DNA? Well, if you do, you need to also believe in Evolution . The

scientific facts on DNA paleontology have gotten so compelling over the last 15

to 20 years that there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that:

  1. Humans and other primates evolved from a common ancestor (NOT a monkey but a creature with characteristics much like all current primates, just less advanced)
  2. There were other species of humans that have disappeared
  3. Other species of humans have interbred with current humans including at least Neanderthals in their DNA. I am over 2% Neanderthal and that id fairly low.
  4. Our closest living relative is the chimpanzee
  5. The gorilla is our next closest living relative
  6. The chimpanzee is closer kin to humans than to gorillas
  7. Thus, humans are the chimpanzees closest living relative.

With the DNA trail, you do not need fossils to determine this. This trail comes from living creatures. It is easy to trace, from people, animals and plants living today, the changes in DNA over time clearly tie one species to another! Obviously the fossils provide excellent corroborating evidence.

Clearly, if DNA is true (and we know it is) evolution is true. While the medical

scientists were solving the human genome, the paleontologists were solving

the DNA trail from existing and new finds. There is a lot of DNA evidence now

that is far more compelling than the fossil record could ever be. Because, as

those that have studied even basic geology know, the earth’s crust is a

volatile place and very little of the earth’s surface has stayed on or near the

“surface” over the eons. Therefore, the fossil record is and always will be spotty with some eras far more barren than others.

Another problem with fossils is that even under normal conditions, few remains of critters, including people, survive for even a few hundred years, let alone Millenia. Erosion, rain, fires, other critters eating the remains – including worms and microbes – and other natural factors destroy all but the few “lucky” corpses that are protected by the best of circumstances, including mud slides covering the remains deep enough to avoid the microbes etc.

In conclusion, DNA evidence has driven the final nail in the coffin of denial of evolution by all except the ignorant, stupid and devious, of which there an abundance of all three, especially the first two.
